Elon University Inman Admissions Welcome Center

The Inman Admissions Welcome Center is Elon University’s “front door”: the first stop for prospective students and families and the starting point for campus tours. Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the Georgian-style building centers on a rotunda topped with a cupola, framed by wings with open loggias, and completes a new landscaped quadrangle facing Belk Library. Inside are a two-story atrium lobby, two presentation theaters, conference rooms, and offices for the admissions, financial planning and welcome center staff.

Edmondson Engineers designed the building’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Variable air volume air handlers with energy recovery wheels, variable speed drives and high-efficiency condensing boilers help the building perform roughly 27% better than code. LED lighting with occupancy sensors and dual-level switching, low-flow plumbing fixtures that reduce potable water use by about 36%, and metering for water, gas and electricity all contributed to the project’s LEED Silver certification.
