NC State Crime Lab – 4th Floor Renovation

A full-floor renovation of level four of the North Carolina State Crime Lab in Raleigh, converting outdated space into modern forensic laboratories and offices for the Department of Justice. Edmondson Engineers designed the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems and provided construction administration. The project also included a roof replacement.

Two new air handlers, one of them a 100% outside air unit, replaced the floor's original equipment, with variable speed drives and reheat terminal units for zone control. The existing stainless steel fume hood exhaust was tested, cleaned and reworked to serve new fume hoods, bench snorkels and general exhaust through pressure-independent flow controllers, and the laboratory controls were updated on the building's Siemens automation system. New lab benches are served by compressed air, vacuum and bottled nitrogen, helium and hydrogen, with polypropylene acid waste piping and chemical-resistant lab sinks.
