Durham County EMS Station 1

Durham County EMS Station 1 is a new emergency medical services station with drive-through apparatus bays, crew quarters, a day room, kitchen and support spaces. Edmondson Engineers designed the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems and provided construction administration through final inspection.

The apparatus bay is heated by gas-fired infrared tube heaters and ventilated by dedicated exhaust fans, with sprinkler piping, power, lighting and hose reels coordinated overhead so the bay stays clear for vehicles. Crew and office spaces are served by packaged rooftop units with variable-speed compressors and enhanced dehumidification, plus ductless split systems, all managed by a building automation system with occupied and unoccupied scheduling and economizer control. An emergency generator keeps the station running during outages, and the building was independently commissioned.
